The information below is offered in an attempt to be helpful. There is noguarantee that the instructions will apply in your case. I have merely reportedwhat seems to work for us (until the watch next goes wrong).

You use these instructions at your own risk.

But beware of the error found in our printed instructions mentionedbelow.

Faults and instructions

Our experience is with the first of these two models, but it seems from Amazonreviews that exactly the same faults are experienced by a significant subset ofpurchasors of the second model, with metal strap.

Like many of the Amazon customers who have written reviews of this watch my wifehas tried two of them and had serious problems: after working perfectly forabout two years, each watch started re-setting the time and date to January2005.

Another problem is the inadequacy of the instructions -- minute and barelyreadable, but even worse: there's a missing step, explained below. This can leadto time-wasting mistakes when setting the casio watch.

So beware of these watches, unless you are willingto take risks with your money, and spend time re-setting after faults.

Wva-105h

To help those whose watches need re-setting, I've given instructions below forsetting time and various other features (but not all) and for turning radio modeon or off -- with the missing instruction added (and indicated).

For a while after the fault appeared, the watch worked well enough with radioreception turned off, as an ordinary non-radio-controlled digital watch.

But after being used in non-radio mode for some time (a few months I think) itstarted re-setting to 2005 every now and again.

After the first one did that we bought a new one, hoping we were simply unluckywith a faulty specimen.

Like the first one, the new watch worked fine until some time after theguarantee period then also started re-setting itself. Again, turning off theradio controlled mode only partially fixed this problem.

So my wife keeps both watches handy, and when one goes back to 2005, switches tothe other, and then when she has time re-sets the errant one to current time.

We shall shortly attempt to find a radio controlled watch with an equally goodwatch face but greater reliability.

SETTING INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOW.
NOTE: the instructions refer to buttons A, B, C, D, in this layout.Contents:
A: TO SET TIME MANUALLY
B: TO TURN AUTO RECEIVE OFF:

A: TO SET TIME MANUALLY

Hold A down until City code flashes (bottom left).

to cycle through city codes. B moves west, D moves East.

Madrid (MAD) is east of London so press B,
Lisbon (LIS) is west of London, so press D.

When LON is set (flashing), you can then cycle through the following operations, setting states using button C, and using buttons B and D to alter each state.(B and D make changes in opposite directions.)

When you get back to City (LON flashing) press A to exit to normal mode:

So: hold A (top left) for a while to get city flashing then cycle through thesemodes by pressing button C (bottom left)In each of those setting modes:

Casio Wave Ceptor 2556 Battery Replacement - Not For the Mechanically Challenged

I have a Casio Wave Ceptor 2556 LCD watch. It's a great watch and, if I don't use the backlight or alarm often, runs for years before needing a battery change. In fact, yesterday was the first time the battery died since I've had the watch. I assumed that replacement would be a fairly simple process. It wasn't.

For anyone with a similar watch who might be searching (as I did, futilely) for aid and assistance, here are some notes and pictures.

Disclaimer

Casio does not recommend that people replace batteries themselves. If you break the watch while replacing the battery, that's your responsibility.

Tools

Examine the back of the watch. It shows the model number and name: Casio wave ceptor 2256 WV-57H. Note the four small screws.Whereas many watch backs need to be pried off, the Casio requires a jeweler's micro screwdriver, Phillips head.

You'll also need a small bowl, a forceps (or tweezers), and a good source of light. Logitech quickcam orbit af software.

Steps

Steps first; more photos follow.

1. Lay the watch face down on a table top. You may want to place it on a soft cloth or towel.

2. Carefully remove the four screws and place them in a small bowl or cup. You do not want to accidentally lose a screw. (If you're tempted to just lay the screws on the table, stop reading now because I don't want to talk to you. If you keep reading, don't blame me if you lose a screw.)

3. From this point on, keep the watch face down. Do NOT turn it over; there are tiny little springs which can fall out and be lost forever if you turn the watch over when the back is off.

4. If the rubber gasket comes loose, put it in the bowl with the screws.

5. Examine the back of the watch. You can now see the battery, held in place by a circular 'retainer clip' of thin metal. If you're like me, no amount of staring at this clip will tell you where it's hinged (if it is) and where or how it's supposed to open. The Casio User's Manual provides no assistance.

I turned to the web and, after widening the search to digital watch battery replacement metal clip finally found a small number of photographs that showed me the trick.

The 'hinge' is at the upper edge of the retainer clip (toward the top of the watch). There is a 'clasp' at the bottom.

6. Gently insert a push pin tip, forceps tip, or the blade of your smallest flat-blade micro screwdriver into the space between the 'clasp' of the retainer clip and the plastic wall of the inner watch housing and lever upward carefully. The retainer does not lift all the way up; loosen it enough that the battery can be removed (by sliding it out from below the retainer clip).

7. Gently slide out the old battery. Slide in the new battery, with the (labeled, positive) back facing out. Avoid touching the new battery with your fingers; use a piece of tissue, gloves, etc. Do NOT use a pair of tweezers, lest you short out the battery.

8. Press the retainer clip back in place. Press down on the clasp at the bottom until it snaps into place. You may need to use the back of your screwdriver to press the clasp until it 'clicks'.

9. Reset the 'All Clear' (AC).Inside the back panel of the watch is a sticker that reads 'After battery replacement, contact AC with terminal (-) using tweezers'.

The AC contact point is marked with an arrow; it's a small gold-plated circle on the circuit board of the watch, in a 'hole' at the lower left as you look at the battery. This contact needs to be connected to the stainless steel area around the battery clip which is labeled with (-), another arrow and a circle.

If you are not comfortable using tweezers, you can use a thin wire, connecting one end of the wire to the AC contact point and the other to the circle marked (-).

10. Pick up the watch, keeping it level so that the springs do not fall out. Peek at the watch's face. It should now be reading 1/1 12:00.

11. Lay the watch back on the table. Replace the gasket, if it came out during the battery-replacement procedure. Note that a small rectangular notch on the left side of the gasket's groove matches a small rectangular bump in the gasket.

12. Press the back onto the watch and re-seat the screws. They only need to be snug; do NOT over-tighten.

13. Reset your location and time.

  • Replacing the battery in a Casio Databank 150 watch - this was the only remotely close article I found. It had a photo of a similar metal 'battery retainer' clip. Every other article I found just said 'Remove the metal retainer clip over the battery' as if that was simple to figure out! The 'retainer' on a Casio Databank isn't the same, but the latch mechanism is very similar.

Casio does not recommend that people replace batteries themselves. If you break the watch while replacing the battery, that's your responsibility.
Thank you for contacting Casio America Inc. As a result of certain aspects of our watches we only recommend that Casio authorized technicians work on the watch. In order to re-seal, re-pressurize, and re-calibrate the watch the technician needs certain knowledge, and parts that most jewelers don't have. For this reason we recommend that any work that needs to be done to the watch be done by one of our authorized service centers.

Please ship your watch through a method that will provide you with a tracking number. Please make sure to include a letter with your name, address, phone number and nature of your request inside of the package so that the technician is aware of the service that is being requested.

    Disclaimer 2 - Use Caution!

I received this comment by email from Don Z:
Mine is a 104, but very similar.

A word of warning, on mine the buttons were sticking so I thought it would be a good idea to remove the watch mechanism from the case. Not a good idea. In the process the hands popped off and several gasket like pieces came loose. Not sure I'll be able to recover.
